My hero!!

ben10

So, as jy wil weet waaroor DIE NOOD gaan, kyk die video :)

Good day Ladies and Gentlemen, for those of you that don’t know me,  my name is M…, I’m the father of the beautiful bride.  I  would like to take this opportunity to welcome each and everyone in sharing and making this a special day to be remembered.

A special welcome to those from far and beyond.  (Hier noem hy almal)

H en A (Marius se ouers), dit is vir my n groot voorreg om julle te verwelkom in die familie.  Baie welkom.

Marius and Marcia, as one you look radiant and fantastic today, the glow is blinding.

As I look at my daughter, the bride, I can’t help but reflect on all the years I was lucky enough to watch her grow and become the beautiful woman she’s today.  She captured my heart on the day she was born, and I became more and more in awe of her as the years passed by.  She’s my little girl, my princess my darling and ray of sunlight, and no matter what her age, she’ll always be those things to me. (Hier huil pappa snot en trane en moes eers oge gaan droog maak :) )

But today as I watch her marry a wonderful man, I’m filled with pride, joy and I’m confident that she and Marius are about to embark on a wonderful journey filled with the love and happiness that can only come as husband and wife.

May the two of you always treat each other with love, respect, honor, compassion and kindness.

M and I said we are not losing Marcia, we are gaining a son.  (Marcia : As ek vir jou n dag kon kies sou die dag so mooi wees soos jou hart, so wonderlik soos jou mens wees en so sonnig soos jou glimlag.)

And as we have got to know Marius over time we have come to the conclusion that he will take good care of Marcia.  He has shown himself to be exactly the man we had always hoped Marcia would marry.  Family is the most important thing to him.  He is really hard working and he has immaculate taste that is why he chose Marcia.  (Except for his support of the Lions)

Marius it gives me great pleasure, pride and joy to formally welcome you into our family, and I hope that you’ll be pleased to be a member of the S……. clan.

Ten Commandments on marriage

  1. Marriages are made in heaven.  So is thunder and lightning
  2. If you want your wife to listen to every word you say, talk in your sleep
  3. Marriage is grand and divorce is 100 grand
  4. In the first year of marriage the man speaks and the woman listen.  In the second year the woman speaks and the man listens.  In the third year of marriage the  both speak and the neighbours listens
  5. When a man opens the door of his car for his wife you can be sure of one thing:  Either the car is new or the wife is
  6. Marriage is when a man and a woman become as one, the trouble starts when they try to decide which one
  7. Before marriage a man will lie awake all night thinking about something you said.  After marriage he’ll fall asleep before you finish
  8. Every man wants a wife who’s beautiful, understanding, economical and a good cook.  But the law only allows for one wife
  9. Marriage is a matter of chemistry.  That’s why one treats the other like toxic waste
  10. A man is incomplete until he’s married.  After that he’s finished

Marius and Marcia, I would like to give you a few tips that you should follow in life

Pencilmaker

In the beginning the Pencil maker spoke to the pencil saying

There are five things you need to know before I send you out into the world.  Always remember them and you will become the best pencil you can be”

  1. You will be able to do many great things, but only if you allow yourself to be held in someone’s hand.
  2. You will experience a painful sharpening from time to time, but this is required if you want to become a better pencil.
  3. You have the ability to correct any mistakes you might make.
  4. The most important part of you will always be what’s inside.
  5. No matter what the condition, you must continue to write.  You must always leave a clear, legible mark no matter how difficult the situation.

The pencil understood, promising to remember, and went into the box fully understanding its maker’s purpose

Now, replacing the pencil with yourself, always remember these rules and never forget them, in this way you will become the person you want to be

  1. You will be able to do many great things, but only if you allow yourself to be held in God’s hand, and allow other human beings to access you for the many gifts you possess.
  2. You will experience a painful sharpening from time to time, by going through various problems, but you’ll need it to become a stronger person.
  3. You will be able to correct mistakes; you might make or grow through them.
  4. The most important part of you will always be what’s on the inside.
  5. On every surface you walk, you must leave your mark.  No matter what the situation, you must continue to serve God in everything.

Everyone is like a pencil…… created by the Maker for a unique and special purpose

By understanding and remembering, let us proceed with our life on this earth having a meaningful purpose in our heart and a relationship with God daily.

I would finally like to say a couple of thank you messages.

Firstly, to my daughter and her husband, for making me the happiest, proudest father around today.  Thank you.

M 10

Last but not least, to all of you for joining us in our celebration here today.  You have all helped make it such a magnificent occasion.

Marcia, you will always our my pride and joy, your happiness is our deepest desire.

Ladies and Gentlemen, on behalf of all of us, I offer a toast to Marius and Marcia’s love and happiness
Happiness forever

Hier klink ek ‘n toast op my dogter en nuwe seun :)

M 11

 My boet en sus :)

M 14

Seun sou ongeveer 10ho0 daar aankom.

Huh….

Papiere net waar jy kyk.  Toe begin ander parolee’s instroom. Hier by 12h30 rond kook my bloed seker al by kookpunt maar die “pose” moet gehou word.

Blaas ouma, blaas.

Vandag is my meisiekind 22……

happy%20birthday

Verjaarsdag

Nog ‘n jaar,

skitter

Die blouoog pop se teenwoordigheid,

dankbaar

trots

Kyk ek, liefdevol na haar

vandag, word sy twee en twintig

Te dank aan die liewe Heer,

Met ‘n tikkie verlange,

Onthou ek nog

My eerste ontmoeting met haar,

dit voel soos gister,

Wat sy nog snoesig,

warm

veilig,

Onder my hart nes gemaak het.

“Happy Birthday”

nes gister

Op jou twee en twintigste verjaardag, my pop

sal jou met vlerke van liefde

beskerm,

En jou in my gebede dra

Totdat

My oë eendag finaal sal sluit

en ek dan, selfs na die dood

jou op elke verjaardag

op my hande dra.

Agent of Change Awards  for Outstanding Volunteer Service in 2008

  • Board (Hy was vir die kategorie genomineer)

Nominee Name: William T. Grové

Volunteer Organization:  Columbus Zoological Park Association Board

Nominated By:

Your Name: Jeff Swanagan

Title:  Executive Director, Columbus Zoo and Aquarium

Your Organization:  Columbus Zoo and Aquarium

Address: Columbus Zoo and Aquarium Box 400, Powell OH 43065

Describe the volunteer work and what has been accomplished in calendar 2008

Willie has been a member of the Board of Directors for the Columbus Zoological Park Association for almost ten years.  He has served as chair of the Zoo’s annual Zoo Fund campaign, chair of the Strategic Planning Committee and as a member at large on the Board of Directors.  A recent President of the Zoo’s Board of Directors had this to say about Willie:

He has shared his love of wildlife and conservation with a diverse audience through his travel group and through his video programs.  His general enthusiasm for the zoo is a positive example for other board members and his fearless quest to raise funds has set a high goal for others.

Willie relates well to all ages and brings friends and potential donors to our events.  He is generous with his time, treasure, and talent.  The Columbus Zoo has benefited greatly from his presence on our Board.

Willie is a true agent of change.  Seven years ago, Willie brought together two seemingly opposite organizations – the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium and Opera Columbus.   Willie is both a passionate conservationist and an accomplished singer. He has served for many years on the Opera Columbus board and is a tireless fundraiser for that organization too.  He had an idea to bring the two organizations together by holding a summer concert event at the Zoo, Go Wild! for Opera at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium. The two organizations had never before collaborated but this event has proven to be a successful fundraiser for both the Zoo and Opera Columbus.  Willie leads a committee of Zoo and Opera volunteers and is the primary driver of this event. He is instrumental in securing both the talent and the sponsorships.  Thousands of people have attended this event, bringing new audiences to both the Zoo and the Opera.  In 2008 he added a special twist to this successful fundraiser and challenged his committee and both the Zoo Board and the Opera Board to increase ticket sales so that a fund could be established in the name of retiring Zoo Executive Director Jerry Borin.  To date, Go Wild! for Opera at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium has raised over $200,000 which has been split equally between the two organizations.

  • Describe accomplishments, including hours of service:

Estimated hours for 2008 for both the Zoo and Opera Columbus – 1300 hours

Willie served as President of the Opera Columbus Board of Trustees from 2006 – 2008.  He took the helm when the Opera was in danger of closing its doors forever and successfully led this organization through its financial crisis.  According to Susan Ropp, Assistant Executive Director and Director of Development at Opera Columbus, “Opera Columbus is thriving today due, in large part, to Willie’s contributions during this time.”

From the original idea through the actual event, Go Wild! For Opera at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is all Willie.  Each year he brings to the table a renewed sense of energy and enthusiasm that is contagious.  He always has a new idea, new partners; some new twist that keeps the event fresh and exciting as well as increasing audience numbers.  In 2008, Willie suggested we add Franklin County Children’s Services as a partner to Go Wild! The Zoo sponsored more than 100 children and their mentors to a day at the Zoo, with special activities just for them.  They then attend the evening’s concert.

  • Who benefits from these services?

The entire Columbus community has benefited from Willie’s passionate and enthusiastic support of the Zoo and the Opera.

  • Describe the Change that has occurred because of the volunteer activities.

New audiences have visited the Zoo and been exposed to Opera Columbus because of Willie.  This event includes performances by nationally recognized artists, local singers and children.  It is a wonderful family event that showcases both organizations.

  • What makes the nominees service extraordinary?

He is a tireless cheerleader for both organizations.  His vision and passion are contagious and makes new friends for both organizations wherever he goes.  As a fundraiser he is a generous contributor as well as an innovative “matchmaker” finding and involving new donors.

  • Additional comments.

As a board member, Willie sets the standard.   He is generous with all of his resources.   He is an “out of the box” thinker who not only has new ideas, but is willing to act on his ideas, following them through to completion.  Willie is a true agent of change and the changes are all for the better.

Willie se kommentaar op sy “award” -  so humble….

Totally undeserved but well appreciated. There are many people who share in this honor, not the least of which is my team who has given me their unconditional support in all my community activities.

Recently I was also nominated for the State of Ohio Governor’s Award for community service. These honors, along with the Barron’s top listing (12th in Ohio, top 5 in Columbus) go a long way towards building the Grové Team and UBS’ credibility in the Columbus. I am proud of what we achieve together.

Eish… Ek swel alweer met trots op my “Amerikaanse” oom…

My kosbaarste kommentaar! 2009/03/15

Vandag kry ek hierdie kommentaar op een van my  “My storie” inskrywings.

My liewe Maritjie,

I can’t begin to tell you how much I respect you for this blog. I spent all morning reading every thing on your blog, and ended with this letter from M, and with C’s letter. I am an emotional wreck!

As your uncle, living in America, I am very much out of touch with what is going on with my family in South Africa. I had no idea about the heartbreak. the pain, the feelings of loss and despair experienced through these years. Yes, I had a hunch, but I chose to sweep it under the rug of my conscience.

Reading your stories about M and C broke my heart. Seeing the pictures with Marc and Zheethan tugged at my emotions, and I probably cried more this morning than I have in many years combined.

Since you were a baby I have always loved you and have always felt you were special. Those many years ago when your dad was killed in a car accident and your mom and the three of you had to move in with the rest of us, were very special to me as a young college student. No matter that I had to give up my bedroom and sleep in the living room so that the four of you could have my bedroom. That’s what family does for each other. You were probably two or three, living in a small house with ouma and oupa, and my three sisters, your brother and sister… nine of us – one happy family.

Now I know HOW much I love you, and HOW special you are.

How lucky we are to have such a special family, who cares so much for each other, over these many generations! How wonderful that you share these experiences. You cannot begin to understand how many other people you are helping and touching.

Oh, by the way, you writing is excellent. You mentioned that maybe someone could someday write a book about it. YOU should do that.

With all my love, admiration and respect,

Oom Willie

Die trane loop saggies langs my wange af….

Al wat ek kan sê…

I LUV ALL OF U 2 en ons mis julle oneindig baie.

All my love!!!!!!!
